SWOT ANALYSIS 2005

The Ringwood Chamber of Trade Committee commenced a SWOT analysis in February 2005, under the guidance of Committee member Ian Badley. Part I was to identify The Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats of and to the Chamber from which an Action plan could be devised. The ultimate objective was for a stronger Chamber providing even more and greater benefits to you the Members.

Space limits inclusion of all the points covered, however members of the Committee identified the following:

STRENGTHS of High Importance

  • Being listened to by many and influential
  • Views sought by NFDC
  • Christmas (see Opportunities)
  • The Committee
  • The Name
  • Representation of Members
  • Non Political

WEAKNESSES of High Importance and therefore Critical.

  • Communication including:
    • To and from members and prospective members
  • Its perception by others
  • Canvassing views
  • Its Aims and Objectives including planning, decision making and implementation
  • Coordination of Newsletters
  • Possible duplication of costs and effort between other Ringwood organizations
  • Insufficient Membership

OPPORTUNITIES of High Importance

To be acted upon in the Short Term (0-3months).

  • Promotion/Publicity/Awareness
  • Linking with other Organisations
  • Networking
  • Updating and Delivery of Newsletters
  • Clear Objectives, Actions and Follow Through

Other Opportunities for development in the longer term included

  • Welcome Pack for new Businesses
  • Website Potential
  • Increase Membership
  • Christmas - Re-evaluate thinking and perception
  • Increase B2B

THREATS of High Importance

To be acted upon in the Short Term (0-3 months).

  • Loss of Support/Revenue
  • Loss of Trade to Shopping Centres
  • Parking

In Part II of the SWOT analysis, Actions have been drawn up with timeframes which will be taken on by individual committee members or groups of members, dependent upon the tasks, to complete. Progress will be then be monitored against the Action Plan to effectively bring about the changes and developments identified…providing even more and greater benefits to you the Members.
