STONE STATUE STARTLES SHOPPERS

A life sized stone garden statue gave hundreds of shoppers a fright last week as they entered the Ringwood Surplus Stores in Meeting House Lane, when the stone statue suddenly moved.

Giggling nervously shoppers could not believe their eyes, had they really seen a solid stone statue wink an eye, or move it's hand? Set amongst some small bushes by a tinkling fountain it looked real enough, but was it too real?

The statue which stood almost motionless outside Ringwood Surplus Stores for five hours last Saturday, 7th August, was, in fact stunt man Steen Young from Sticks and Stones Productions. He was outside the shop owned by Ringwood Chamber of Trade & Commerce President Nicki Wood who was using Steen's unusual talents to collect money for the Ringwood Christmas Lights.

Said Nicki "That day every one came into my store laughing. There were a few screams as well, but my moving statue was a great success and we raised £61 for the Christmas Lights."

Said shopper Anne Jones "I really believed he was made of stone. I couldn't believe my eyes when he winked at me, and then moved his arm."

Nicki added "I think we will be seeing him again for the carnival, but he may be looking rather different."
